Most of us are guilty from time to time, spending way too much in our quest for a miracle anti-wrinkle cream that will erase every line on our face, and give us back the fresh, dewy complexion we had in our early 20s. Usually this ends up being a never-ending quest, as we usually find we are paying for something that never quite lives up to our lofty expectations.
While such a miracle cream probably doesn’t exist, there are certain ingredients that can help skin to look and feel softer, smoother, and more rejuvenated. When sorting through the countless jars and bottles it is important not to get drawn in by pretty packaging or an expensive price tag. Look at the ingredients to determine if you are paying a hefty price for mostly water and mineral oil, or if the product contains quality ingredients that will truly make a difference in your skin‚Äôs appearance.
The following ingredients are some of the most beneficial ingredients in a good anti-wrinkle cream: Retinol, which is a form of vitamin A that is able to be absorbed into the skin. It is known for its ability to increase the production of skin cells and collagen.
Anti-oxidants reverse the damaging oxidative effects caused by the sun and pollution. When checking the label, look for Alpha Lipoic Acid, Co-Q10, and vitamins A, C and E.
Emollients are the ingredients that soften your skin. They give creams their creamy texture and serums their slippery feel. Some examples are Acetyls, Silicone and Dimethicone.
Exfoliants slough off the dead skin cells, revealing fresh, glowing skin. Good forms of these are Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs). Some creams use things like ground walnut shells, which can tear the delicate skin, and should be avoided. AHAs and BHAs are safe alternatives.
Of course, a good anti-wrinkle cream should contain an SPF of at least 15, to protect from the sun’s damaging rays.
An anti-wrinkle cream may not provide surgical results, but a good one should ease the look of fine lines, and give a rested, glowing complexion for a more improved you.
